Wetlands Management and West Nile Virus
by Lynda Saul, DEQ Wetland Coordinator
This seminar will describe wetland ecology and management in Montana, including background on the state's wetlands, different types and their location, and who manages them.
Many natural resource professionals are familiar with issues surrounding the physical loss of wetlands, but wetland health is equally important to future wetland viability. Threats to healthy wetlands and how wetland health is being monitored will be discussed during the presentation.
West Nile virus, which could also impact wetlands management, will be discussed as well. Lynda will offer background information on the virus, how it may affect wetlands management, and strategies for individual and communities managing wetlands and mosquitoes. The seminar will conclude with a question and answer session.
Natural resource professionals, as well as the public, are invited to attend. This presentation is free of charege. For more information, call (406) 444-3345. Interested individuals are also encouraged to visit the NRIS website at: nris.state.mt.us
